Just across the Ashley River from historic Charleston, the aptly named neighborhood of West Ashley is a grid of attractive residential streets and districts. The part of the neighborhood east of I-526 is densely populated, with Sam Rittenberg Boulevard acting as a major commercial corridor. Many homes for sale in West Ashley are clustered in this area, giving residents access to the sector's best amenities. Avondale is a major draw, with a Main Street feel replete with lovely store fronts housing shops, breweries, and restaurants. Many of West Ashley's most desirable neighborhoods border the Avondale entertainment district.

Near this stretch of business is Citadel Mall, the region's largest indoor shopping mall. But there are lovely green spaces here too, such as St. Andrews Park and Playground, in addition to the serene river and marsh views the area is known for.
